The Gallery was opened in 1985 and houses a permanent collection of predominantly 19th and 20th century paintings and a small section of contemporary works. Local artists are well represented in the section called “Quaderni di Villa dei Cedri”. Special exhibitions are organized with the collaboration of other galleries. The first of these, dedicated to Luigi Rossi, was organized on occasion of the inauguration of the Gallery and was followed by another of works by Filippo Franzoni. Both of these exhibitions were subsequently transferred to Milan and were followed by others dedicated to Felix Vallotton, Albert Anker and Guido Tallone. The permanent collection, which is still being completed, is founded on several prestigious bequests (Moretti, Pico and Rossi) and comprises mainly late 19th c. works of artists from the Lombardy area: Giuseppe Barbaglia, Leonardo Bazzaro, Silvio Bicchi, Pietro Chiesa, Giuseppe Casciaro, Carlo Cressini, Adolfo Feragutti Visconti, Filippo Franzoni, Emilio Longoni, Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, Luigi Rossi, Giovanni Segantini, Paolo Sala, G. A. Sartorio, Cesare Tallone, Vincenzo Vela. The 20th century is represented by Giuseppe Amisani, Aldo Carpi, Raffaele De Grada, Alberto Salietti, Guido Tallone, Arturo Tosi and local artists such as Jean Corty, Guido Gonzato, Giuseppe Foglia, Mario Ribola and Augusto Sartori. The contemporary section comprises some bequests by Guberti, Guidi, Huf and other works by Giuseppe Balzani, Massimo Cavalli, Pierre Casé, Edmondo Dobranski, Mario Comensoli, Sergio Emery, Renzo Ferrari, Donato Spreafico, Gianni Metalli, Fernando Bordoni, Mario Marioni, Giovanni Genucchi and Alberto Salvioni.
